Hundreds of miners are trapped more than a mile underground due to an explosion and fire at a coal mine in western Turkey.

More than 150 miners are confirmed dead in the disaster. Turkey's energy minister says most of the miners who lost their lives died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Rescue personnel are working to pump oxygen into the mine. It's suspected that the explosion may be due to an electrical problem. The resulting power outage knocked out the elevators that miners would use to get out. (Metro Networks Inc.)
