An investigation is underway after a military aircraft crashed into a residential area in the Imperial Valley area of Southern California.

Marine officials stationed at the base in Miramar say the Aircraft Wing AV-8B Harrier went down around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.

The pilot managed to eject safely and was unharmed, but the plane came crashing down into several homes.

Authorities are still on scene trying to see if anyone on the ground was hurt.

The jet was based out of Yuma, Arizona.
