Lifelong seamstress and costume designer Betty Sylvia will be offering a beginner sewing class for 11 to 18 year old students at The Burt Wood School of Performing Arts.

According to South Coast Today.com, “for the past year, Betty has been the resident seamstress for The Burt Wood School.”  She has been making costumes and clothing for over fifty years.  Sylvia specializes in special occasion dresses.

Students will learn how to hem, sew on a button, repair seams, and how to overcome the fear of the needle and machine, along with the principals for basic sewing.

Classes begin on Monday, June 27 from 3 to 5pm and will meet on Monday, June 27, July 11, July 18, and July 25.  Each student will finish the class with a completed machine stitched creation.

Students are encouraged to bring a basic sewing kit to class.  Students who have sewing machines are invited to bring them each week.  Tuition for the 8 hour class is $60.
