BOSTON — Michelle Carter's lawyers have filed an emergency motion, asking the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to continue to delay the beginning of her 15-month prison sentence.

The 22-year-old was convicted in 2017 of involuntary manslaughter in the suicide death of Conrady Roy III of Mattapoisett. Her appeal was turned down in State Supreme Court last week.

Carter is due to appear in Taunton Trial Court Monday for a hearing as the Bristol County District Attorney's Office has requested that she begin serving her sentence immediately. The hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Carter's lawyers are asking the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court to extend her stay of sentence to give them time to file an appeal of her conviction with the U.S. Supreme Court.
