Americans might be struggling to recover from the Great Recession, but Congress is getting wealthier every year.

Research released Monday by the Center for Responsive Politics shows the median net worth of lawmakers was more than one-million dollars in 2013. That's 18 times the wealth of the typical American household, and that figure has jumped by 28 percent since 2007.  Meanwhile, Americans' median wealth is down 43 percent in that time span.

Republican Representative Darrell Issa of California topped the charts with a net worth of almost 450-million dollars in 2013, while Republican Representative David Valadao was the poorest, claiming almost 12-million dollars in debt.  (Metro Networks Inc.)
