Dartmouth could be the home of a medical marijuana dispensary in the not-so-distant future.

At Monday's meeting, the Dartmouth Select Board voted to provide a letter of non-opposition for a proposed facility at 350 Faunce Corner Rd, which is currently a nutrition store.

The non-profit organization, called the William Noyes Webster Foundation, is currently constructing their grow facility in Plymouth and a dispensary in Dennis. Those facilities were awarded their licenses under Gov. Deval Patrick, and are expected to open in February.

WNWF President Jane Heatley says the Dartmouth facility would create about 20 jobs, and provide the town with revenue through a host agreement.

"I believe we're in it for the right reason. I believe we do a really good job, and the state apparently does too, because we're in phase two of three phases for the next two licenses," Heatly said.

Along with Dartmouth, the group is also applying for a marijuana dispensary license in Cambridge.

With all members of the Select Board currently supporting the facility, Dartmouth Deputy Police Chief Robert Szala said he wouldn't object to a dispensary in town.

The group's Security Manager, retired state police detective lieutenant Richard Nagle, has already been in contact with Szala. Nagle says he plans to work openly with Dartmouth Police, whether it be with on-site security, or ensuring safety during home deliveries.
