Me & Ed's, a legendary restaurant in New Bedford's South End, and Clark's Point Creamy close by, went through a very difficult summer because of a story that appeared in the Standard-Times in May.

A misguided listener who called into WBSM regularly didn't help out matters, either.

When it was reported that the property was officially on the market for sale, a lot of people took that to mean the businesses were closed. But that's the furthest thing from the truth. To add insult to injury, some loony caller told the hosts he was going to buy the property with the millions of dollars he thinks he won in a publishers giveaway. Even further from the truth as well.

The newspaper story did correctly state there were no current plans to close the businesses, but the family feels as though their customer base and others interpreted the article incorrectly by only reading the headline, and losing an enormous amount of summer sales.

On a personal note, the Stellato and Lorenco families have passionately served some of the best food on the SouthCoast for many years. From their "mile high half pound cheeseburger" with crispy fried onions on top to their famous Jack Daniels tenderloin tips in their homemade secret sauce, to fresh seafood, baby back ribs, steaks and pizzas.

It's heartbreaking to think that after all the years of hard work maintaining a superb eatery, Me & Ed's would lose business over a headline and a loon. Please help spread the word that Me & Ed's is open, and drop by soon for fabulous food.
