New Bedford is on a path right now to develop more solar-power capacity than any city east of the Mississippi Rver. 

That statement from Mayor Jon Mitchell on his weekly radio program Wednesday on WBSM. 

The Mayor says renewable energy will help New Bedford save millions in energy costs

New Bedford has already created several "solar farms", including one powering the city's Water Treatment plant in Lakeville. 

There is also one located outside New Bedford High School, and one planned for the Sullivan's Ledge site off Hathaway Road.
