Mayor Jon Mitchell presented his proposed budget to the City Council Wednesday night.

He is seeking $287 million for the fiscal year that begins July 1st. The spending plan includes a 6% increase for schools, but pretty much holds the line on spending in other departments.

Ward 4 Councilor Dana Rebeiro agrees that building a budget around students is the key to the city's future...

$2.7 Million alone will go toward the two turnaround plans in the district. A new reading program and services to better current level 3 schools will also be included in the school budget.

The FY15 budget will be a 3.8% increase from the FY14 budget.
