City officials say they're disappointed that financial issues have stalled the Cape Wind project, and its plan to use New Bedford as a staging area for its offshore wind turbines. But Mayor Jon Mitchell feels New Bedford is still very much in the picture for other wind projects in the Atlantic.

The Mayor says wind companies in Europe will eventually set up shop in New Bedford, because the wind resources in the North Atlantic are among the best in the world.

When it comes to offshore wind, the Mayor is looking at the issue long-term.

On Friday, Mayor Mitchell met with Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, urging her to continue her support of tax incentives for the wind industry, and being an advocate for swift and thoughtful permitting during the leasing of ocean land.

Also, the Massachusetts Energy Center announced Friday, the deadline for submitting applications to operate the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal has been moved to March 30th.

Five potential operators have expressed interest, including three in the United States, one in Germany and one from Canada.
