Mayor Jon Mitchell thanked some special volunteers at Pace Head Start Thursday morning.

As part of the Mayors Day of Recognition for National Service, Mitchell met with several so-called Foster Grandparents, who volunteer their time in the classroom spending quality time with children.

79-year-old Ellie Motta has been a Foster Grandparent since 2001. She says she finds new enjoyment in the program everyday.

The Foster Grandparent program is run through Coastline Elderly Services. 49 people from ages 55-94 took part in the program last year. Nine more have signed up and participated since then.
