Count Mayor Jon Mitchell as a supporter of Arthur T. Demoulas, the former CEO of Market Basket.

Arthur T. was ousted as CEO last month, and replaced by his cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas.

Loyal longtime workers have taken to protesting the sudden change, with work at many of the 71 Market Basket locations coming to a screeching halt. The shelves of the New Bedford Market Basket are practically empty, and Mayor Mitchell says while the city is taking a hit, he stands with Arthur T.'s supporters.

Mitchell says the new leaders of the grocery chain are purposely incurring debt in order to award themselves larger salaries, while passing on the debt to the consumers and workers in the form of higher prices and reduced benefits.

Mitchell says he's signed onto letters drafted by state senators joining and supporting the boycott of Market Basket.
