Mayor Mitchell Provides Winter Safety Tips

Mayor Jon Mitchell declared a state of emergency early Monday afternoon in wake of an "historic" blizzard.

Emergency shelters have been opened up in New Bedford at Pilgrim United Church and Keith Middle School.

However, Mitchell is urging residents to plan ahead.

The mayor also announced that New Bedford Public Schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. You can find a full list of cancellations and closing here.

There will also be a city-wide parking ban in effect until Wednesday or upon word from Mayor Mitchell.
