The Town of Mattapoisett says coliform bacteria was detected in the town's drinking water.

A notice released by the Water Department says the coliform bacteria was found in four samples in a group of twenty samples that were taken in September.

However, officials say there is no emergency and residents don't need to boil their water or take other actions. However, those who may be concerned should contact their physician.

The town says the bacteria has not shown up again in subsequent testing and they took steps including inspection and chlorination of the east end water storage tank.

A copy of the notice is available here.
