A Massachusetts woman sentenced to up to 10 years in prison for withholding potentially life-saving medications from her autistic, cancer-stricken son is asking for a new trial.

Kristen LaBrie on Salem was convicted in 2011 of attempted murder in connection with the 2009 death of her 9-year old son, Jeremy Fraser.

Prosecutors said she withheld at least five months of at-home chemotherapy treatments.

The Salem News reports that in a motion for a new trial filed last month, LaBrie's new attorney alleges she did not receive a fair trial. He says her lawyer made a series of mistakes and had no experience handling cases like hers.

The motion also challenges some of the judge's trial instructions.

LaBrie testified at trial she could not bear the paion her son's medication caused.
