Mayor Jon Mitchell and a group of city and state officials will join students and parents Friday in the annual "Walk And Bike To School Day."

Celebrations will take place throughout the school district. The Mayor will be joining students Friday morning, walking to the Winslow School.

"We want kids to exercise more, we want them to get out and about in their neighborhood, and we want them to feel connected to the adults and kids in their neighborhood."

New Bedford also uses the day to raise awareness about the importance of safe roads and environments that allow students to travel to and from school safely.

The Mayor adds, walking and biking to school helps strengthen connections between families, schools and the broader community.
