The number of single-family homes sold in Massachusetts jumped 25% in January compared to the same month in 2015, and weather appears to have played a factor.

Cassidy Murphy, the Warren Group's Editorial Director said ``the weather was much more conducive to doing business than last year at this time.''

The number of homes sold in our region weren't quite that high, but Paul Chasse, President of the Southeastern Mass. Board of Realtors says there are promising signs.

"Our closing sales in January were actually at almost 16%, our pending sales though are up almost 40%, which means we're probably going to have an extremely good February, when all the February numbers are put together," said Chasse.

The number of homes sold last month statewide were the most in January since 2004.
