The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe says the federal government is going to rule soon on a land deal that is a cornerstone of their proposal to build a casino in Taunton.

The tribe released a letter last night from the U.S. Department of the Interior in which the government promises to rule on the land application soon.  Tribal leaders say the letter is proof that they are in a great position to win approval to build one of the three casinos that will be allowed within the state.

The Mashpee Wampanoag tribe is the only group currently allowed to build in southeastern Massachusetts, though that could change if they fail to get government approval.
