Should a major company that takes in huge amounts of revenue be required to pay its employees more than the minimum wage?  Ward Two City Councilor Steven Martins thinks so.

Martins asked his colleagues Thursday night to support a living wage law for the City of New Bedford.

The proposal would require any major company with revenues of a billion dollars or more to pay their workers a liveable wage.

Martins says similar laws have already been enacted in 140 communities around the country.

The issue was sent to the Council's Ordinance Committee for further debate.
