Gov. Deval Patrick is set to break the ground on a project whose manager says will be the first facility in the nation designed to support the construction, assembly and deployment of offshore wind projects.

    Patrick and Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray are set to break the ground on the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal project Monday.   The ceremony is scheduled for 10:30am in the South End.

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center, the quasi-public agency that is building the project, hope the venture will be ready for use as the staging area for the Cape Wind offshore wind project.

    Cape Wind officials have met Rhode Island authorities to discuss whether the port at Quonset, in North Kingstown, would be able to take on at least some of the work the offshore wind project developer planned to do in New Bedford.  {Associated Press}
