Maria Giesta Kicks Off Mayoral Campaign
With three decades of experience in Washington D.C., Maria Giesta is now setting her sights on the Third Floor Office in City Hall.
Giesta kicked off her mayoral campaign Wednesday night with a public event at Knuckle Heads Bar and Grill.
One of her key issues is fighting for local fishermen.
Her campaign will also focus on reducing crime in the city and boosting small business. She is also in favor of bringing a casino to New Bedford.
Giesta spent 23 years as a staffer for former U.S. Rep. Barney Frank, eventually becoming his chief of staff. She also spent time working under then Sen. John Kerry.
The New Bedford native plans to meet with residents and business owners in the coming weeks and months leading up to the November elections.
