Marchers Show Their Support For Marine Commerce Terminal Project
Environmentalists protesting fossil fuel-burning power plants made a stop in New Bedford Thursday morning, to show their support for wind power, and the Marine Commerce Terminal project in the South End.
When completed, the terminal will serve as a staging area for Cape Wind and other offshore wind projects.
Organizer Craig Altemose is excited about the project....
Mayor Jon Mitchell thanked the marchers for their support. He says the project will mean hundreds of jobs for New Bedford area residents in the years ahead.
The Mayor also presented the 50 or so marchers with New Bedford ball-caps, and urged them to talk about New Bedford's committment to renewable energy. The demonstrators will end their march next week on Cape Cod.
