A man bit off another man’s finger during a fight at a Plymouth golf course on Friday.

WCVB-TV reports that police received an emergency call in the late afternoon reporting that two foursomes were in an altercation at Southers Marsh Golf Club in Plymouth.  First responders arrived on scene to find that a 47-year-old man had bit off part of another golfer’s thumb all the way down to the knuckle.

A police dispatcher declined to comment Saturday and Chief Michael Botieri didn’t immediately return a call seeking more information.

The alleged biter was arrested and charged with mayhem while the victim was transported to a local hospital. The victim’s thumb was reportedly on ice during the medical transport.

The crime of mayhem in Massachusetts is defined as "malicious intent to maim or disfigure" and carries a penalty of up to 20 years in state prison.
