A sentence has been handed down for an East Providence man who was convicted on murder charges in connection with a 2014 shooting in Fall River.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office announced on Wednesday that 36-year-old William Tate was sentenced to serve at least 19 years in prison.

Tate was convicted in April on charges of second degree murder, carrying an illegal firearm, and carrying a loaded illegal firearm in connection with the shooting and murder of 26-year-old David Rodriguez at Ship's Cove Apartments.

During the sentencing at Fall River Superior Court Tate was given 15 years to life in prison for the murder charge, three years in prison for carrying an illegal firearm, and one for carrying a loaded illegal firearm.

The sentences will run consecutively which means that Tate won't be eligible for parole until he has served at least 19 years.
