A man was hospitalized after falling into a Taunton river.

Lt. Eric Nichols told WBSM News that around 2 a.m. Thursday officers were near an establishment on Weir St. when they heard screaming come from nearby Mill River.

Officers arrived to the scene and found the man at the bottom of the embankment.

The man told police he was walking near the embankment, but didn't realize how steep it was in the darkness and fell approximately six to eight feet.

Nichols says the man reported having a broken leg and he was taken to Morton Hospital.
