A man already behind bars in Washington State for the murder of a young married couple, has now been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a Fall River woman 27 years ago.

Authorities recently returned 49 year old Daniel Tavares to Massachusetts so he could stand trial for the 1988 murder of Gayle Botelho.

Prosecutors said Tavares stabbed Botelho in October, 1988.  Her body was discovered 12 years later, buried in a backyard of a home where Tavares had previously lived.

On Tuesday, a Fall River jury found Tavares guilty of first degree murder, after deliberating for about four hours. Judge Gary Nickerson immediately sentenced Tavares to life in prison with no chance of parole.

In a statement, District Attorney Thomas Quinn said Tavares was a "very dangerous person who deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison and should never be released. "
