A man cleaning out the garage of a deceased family member got a surprise while going through some fishing gear.

Fairhaven Police Sgt. Kevin Kobza says the man opened a fishing tackle box belonging to his late father-in-law, and found several M-80 explosives wrapped in lead. It's believed the Class C explosives were used for fishing purposes.

The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was called in to safely destroy the explosives. The Bomb Squad took the tackle box and it's contents to a remote, town-owned parcel of land and detonated the M-80s.

Police say at no time was there any risk to the public.
