Officials say a man in his mid-20's has succumbed to injuries following a shark attack on Cape Cod today.

Wellfleet Police are reporting that the man was attacked by a shark around noon today at Newcomb Hollow Beach in Wellfleet.

According to reports, the man was able to be removed from the water and bystanders attempted CPR on the beach. Sadly, he passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital in Hyannis.

The beach is now closed to swimming and there is no word on whether the man was surfing or swimming at the time of the attack.

This deadly attack comes just weeks after Orleans' Harbormaster issued a statement prior to Labor Day weekend urging people to use extra caution on Cape Cod beaches and just a month after a 60-year-old man was attacked in Truro. Newcomb Hollow Beach is just under five miles away from Truro.

According to shark attack data, there have only been three fatal shark attacks in Massachusetts' history. We keep the man's friends and family in our thoughts and prayers.

We will update this story if any further details are released.
