New Bedford Police are expected to file additional charges against a city man who was involved in a fatal pedestrian accident this weekend.

A witness told police, he saw a car strike a pedestrian on Herman Mellville Boulevard around 9pm Saturday. The vcitim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries.

The witness passed on the license plate number, and the car was tracked to a house on South Second Street. Thirty-six year old Victor Perez emerged from the home and admitted he was involved. He said he fled the scene because he was scared and his license was suspended.

Perez was initally charged with operating without a license, leaving the scene and failure to yeild to a pedestrian.

Sunday afternoon, Police were notified that the victim had passed away. His name is being withheld while next of kin is notified. Det. Capt. Steve Vicente further charges are anticipated.
