WAREHAM — Officers were called to Besse Park on Monday morning when it was reported that a man in a boat was intoxicated. When they arrived, police say the man became confrontational.

Wareham officers report that Richard LePage. 70, of Douglas, screamed obscenities at the police and refused to cooperate. Officers say they also noticed a handgun in the boat.

Police say LePage became increasingly hostile and told them to get off the boat. They were able to secure the gun, which they report was loaded.

LePage was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and with  being intoxicated and in possession of a firearm. He was taken to police headquarters where officers say he continued his tirade while being booked. LePage will appear in Wareham District court on Tuesday.
