A New Bedford man is facing charges in connection with a housebreak in the West End.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says that during the first week of February a suspect entered a Gould St. home while the victim was away for a short time.

Numerous electronic devices and jewelry were stolen and the home was ransacked.

Following an investigation, a warrant was issued for 32-year-old Nathaniel John Almeida of New Bedford, who had done some independent home improvement work at the home in the past and thus was familiar with the homeowner and layout.

Vicente says a warrant was also obtained for his home at 280 Acushnet Ave. apt. 2C.

Officers conducted a search of the apartment Saturday morning and a large amount of jewelry.

Detectives are trying to locate the rightful owners of the jewelry and a link to photos of the items can be found here.

Almeida was scheduled to be arraigned this morning in New Bedford district court on Breaking and Entering and Larceny in a building.

Anyone with information on this individual is asked to contact Det. Michael Lopes at 508-991-6300 ext. 79510 or leave an anonymous tip at 508-961-4584.
