Man Arrested For Market Basket Purse Theft

New Bedford police arrest a man following a Friday night purse snatching.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says a 26-year-old New Bedford woman was loading groceries into her car at Market Basket and placed the purse in the cart when a man snatched it.

A man observed the theft and chased the suspect, catching up with him near Belleville Ave. The man confronted the suspect and told him to return the purse but the man suspect fled into some nearby yards.

Officers searched the area then found the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Gregory McGuire of New Bedford, and returned the purse with all its contents to the owner.

Mcguire was placed under arrest and will be arraigned Monday morning in New Bedford District Court on a charge of Larceny from a person.
