A Stoughton man is facing charges after he allegedly exposed himself to a mother and her child on a Westport beach.

Det. Jeff Majewski says that around 6 p.m. Tuesday, police received a call from the woman who said she and her 10-year-old son were walking on Horseneck State Beach when a naked man stood up from his beach chair and approached them.

The man was spotted by an off-duty Massachusetts State Trooper who yelled at him.

Majewski said the trooper confronted the man and followed him to a blue 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck and the man drove away.

Westport Police stopped the vehicle on Route 88 and arrested the driver, 55-year-old Paul Carmichael, on a felony criminal charge of open and gross lewdness.

Majewski said that Carmichael admitted to committing similar acts in the past.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Westport Police Detective Division at (508) 636-1122.
