An 18-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after boarding a bus with students heading to Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School.

Superintendent James O'Brien tells WBSM News the man slipped onto the bus with a group of students and at one point asked to use a student's headphones.

A student notified the bus driver of the incident and the school was contacted.

The school's security team and a member of the administration were waiting when the bus arrived at the school's Church St. entrance.

O'Brien says the man was intercepted by the security team and arrested by police.

Although the man's name wasn't available, O'Brien says this isn't the first time he tried to enter a school and that he was known to authorities.

No students were harmed during the incident and parents were notified.

O'Brien says additional measures will be put in place to ensure student safety.

O'Brien also says this is the only time an incident like this has occured and he credited the bus driver, students, and staff with handling the issue responsibly and taking proactive measures.
