UMass Dartmouth marine scientists, in a video based survey, have found an abundance of small scallops on Georges Bank.

The survey was conducted from May to July 2014. Dr. Kevin Stokesbury says the survey indicates a 32% increase in the scallop population from two years ago.

Stokesbury says large increases in the scallop stocks seem to happen ever ten years or so.

If protected and managed correctly, Stokesbury says it could insure sustainable scallop stocks for another ten years.

He said the results will be shared with federal agencies and regulators.
