FAIRHAVEN - Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito signed a Community Compact agreement with town officials Thursday at Town Hall.

This compact signifies the town choosing three best practices to strengthen the partnership between the town and state.

"The Commonwealth is thrilled to announce a new partnership between state government and the town of Fairhaven," said Polito in a statement. "On behalf of the Commonwealth, the Baker-Polito Administration looks forward to working with town officials to implement all of their selected practices."

The best practices chosen by Fairhaven feature improvements to housing and economic development to assist in the creation for an economic development plan, human resources to create new personnel polices and to upgrade information technology across town offices and departments.

The Community Compact is a voluntary agreement by a municipality with the Commonwealth that allows for assistance and resources in achieving the goals set out to improve the town or city. It also opens the door for future grants and other funding only available to communities that have entered such agreements.
