Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray is defending himself against charges that he violated campaign finance laws by improperly asking for, or receiving donations.

Investigators are looking at the relationship between Murray and a former Chelsea housing official, who is accused of political fundraising as a public employee, which is illegal.

Murray says the charges have no connection to his announcement last week that he will not run for governor next year.   (Associated Press)
