NEW BEDFORD — Police have arrested a New Bedford man on drug charges after initially pulling his car over for a loud exhaust.

At around 12 a.m. Thursday, police tried to pull over a vehicle on County Street for having a loud exhaust system. Even though police activated their emergency lights, the vehicle did not pull over. The car eventually stopped in the area of Middle and County Streets.

After an investigation, police discovered suspected cocaine in the driver's possession.

The driver, Nicky Ortiz, 36, of 8 Hazard Court, Apt. 1, New Bedford, was arrested and charged with possession of a Class B substance, failure to stop for police, operating a vehicle with unnecessary noice, and failure to possess license.
