Lopes Pushes for Independent Audit Of City Books

Ward Six City Councilor Joseph Lopes is pushing for a full-scale, independent audit of the city's finances. 

With changes happening in the Mayor's financial team, Lopes says now would be a good time to get a  handle on the city's financial situation....

City Auditor Peter Schmidt retired at the end of June.  The motion for an independent audit goes before the full council Thursday night.

Some councilors have questioned whether the city can afford to do an independent audit, but Lopes says he wants to review proposals before worrying about the cost.
