A Fall River service member won't have to worry about the roof over his family's head thanks to some local veterans.

The unnamed service member, who is preparing for his seventh deployment, was concerned that the roof of his home wouldn't make it through another Southcoast winter.

In response two veterans groups , the U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club and the Active Heroes Organization, partnered up and made the repairs, which usually cost about $11,000, free of charge.

Phillip Demers, Secretary of the local branch of the U.S. Veterans Motorcycle Club, told ABC 6 that he's glad that they could help to ease at least one worry for their fellow veteran.

"This is just one less stress that he has to worry about. He knows his family is going to be warm and safe throughout the winter,” said Demers.

Mark Negron, a member of the Active Heroes Organization told ABC6 that actions like this can make a huge difference for a stressed veteran who may be on the edge.

"They're already under so much stress and strain. And something like this taken care of for them was just a huge relief," said Negron.

Studies show that 22 veterans commit suicide every day, in the United States and the Active Heroes Organization works to prevent that, with Negron saying the 6 months worth of prep work for the home repair project, was worth it.

"We have to do everything we can to support them. And anything we can do, could be the one thing that keeps a veteran from turning to suicide, and that's what it's all about."
