Local Man Wants To Revive Whaling City Festival

A New Bedford man is leading a petition drive to bring back the Whaling City Festival.

Organizers of the event announced last week there would be no Festival this year, after the City refused to allow the closing time to extend beyond 8pm.

Eric Lima was upset when he heard the news.  Lima has attended the Buttonwood Park festival for years, first going there with his parents years ago. ....

Lima consulted Festival Committee chairman Allen Richard, then posted a petition on change.org, calling for a closing time of 10pm.

Lima says it will be a big loss for the residents of New Bedford if there's no Whaling City Festival this year.
