Local Man Convicted of Robberies in New Bedford and Fall River

A 20-year-old Fall River man is sentenced to at least a decade in state prison in connection with three armed robberies last year.

New Bedford Police say 20-year-old Glenn Antonio Ortiz of County Street in Fall River will face 10-18 years in prison for a string of robberies, two of which took place in Fall River, and one in New Bedford.

Police say Ortiz was involved in the robbery of the 7-11 on Rockdale Avenue on April 23rd, 2013. Ortiz held up the clerk at gunpoint and escaped with cash and cigarettes.

In one of the robberies, Ortiz fired several shots at witnesses who were trying to follow him. Several witnesses were able to obtain the license plate number of the getaway vehicle.

An investigation between Fall River and New Bedford Police led to the identification of the suspect.
