It's Fire Prevention Month and a number of local fire departments are holding open houses Sunday.

In Fairhaven, Fire Department Headquarters on Washington Street will be open to the public from 1-3pm.

Firefighter Wayne Oliveira tells WBSM News people often take the seriousness of fires for granted.

Oliveira says visitors will be able to try some firefighting equipment, and children can enjoy climbing on the firetrucks, free pizza, and much more.

New Bedford's Fire Museum at the corner of Bedford and South Sixth Streets is open to the public from 1-4pm.

And in Dartmouth, Fire District 3 on Cross Road will be open from 10am-1pm, and Headquarters on Bridge Street will be open from 11am-2pm.
