Thursday marks the National Day of Prayer, which will be observed by cities and towns across America.

This year's theme is Pray for America.

Local advocates are encouraging folks to pray at home or out in public. Prayer advocate Steve Bouley says if you can't attend an organized gathering, it doesn't mean you can't pray anyways.

Observances are taking place in several area communities. In New Bedford, a gathering on the steps of City Hall will begin at noon.

Dartmouth, Fairhaven, and Acushnet are also hosting observances.
