Christmas is the perfect time to help others, but its something that should happen year round. That's the feeling of Reverend David Lima, the Executive Minister of the New Bedford Interchurch Council.

There are many people who feel alone or can't seem to fit in this time of the year, and Reverend Lima says the rest of us shouldn't be afraid to reach out. "Sometimes the person that doesn't seem to fit in, may be the very person who doesn't think they can fit in. And so sometimes we have to include them, we have to go out of our way to actually reach out to offer a helping hand, a kind voice or a listening ear."

Reverend Lima also advises those who are feeling alone around Christmas to find ways to interact with other people, and volunteering is a great way to do it. "Get involved with things that are going on," says Lima. "Go to a church service or attend a Choral Society event. And one of the biggest things that people can do is volunteer, don't be alone."

And if you know someone who is alone during Christmas time, Lima suggests you should reach out with the gift of friendship to help them through a difficult time.
