Letter Carriers this weekend collected almost 35,000 pounds of non-perishable food items during the annual "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive.

Organizer Richard Drolet says about 37,000 pounds of food was collected last year in Greater New Bedford.

Drolet admits, he's looking at ways to jump-start the food drive, and is thinking about delivering "special" bags to local residents next year....

All of the food collected this year was distributed to a half-dozen food pantries in the area.
