Remember how many countless TV shows glamorized the job of lifeguard? Well, now is your chance to learn to save lives by becoming a lifeguard. New Bedford Parks and Recreation will be offering a lifeguard training course in cooperation with the Friends of Fall River Heritage State Park and MA Conservation and Recreation. All applicants must be 15 or older prior to April 13, 2014. Anyone applying will be tested on their swimming endurance, and underwater ability. Classroom instruction will take place at the Buttonwood Park Community Center and pool related activities will take place at New Bedford High School. The program will also train participants in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, first aid, CPR and automatic external defibrillation. The sessions run in March and in April. There is a $225 registration fee to participate. For details and more information, contact New Bedford Parks, Recreation & Beaches at 508-961-3015.
