The City of New Bedford and New Directions kept dozens of young people busy this summer in the Mayor's Learn and Serve Summer Youth Program.

The six week program for 14 and 15 year olds called on the teens to carry out community service projects while developing work readiness skills.

The participants were recognized Monday night during a gathering at the New Bedford Art Museum.

The team's conclusions were presented to city decision-makers earlier this week.  Each team had about ten members.

Officials say the projects allowed the teens to work on collaboration, goal setting, teamwork and community service.

All of the students received a $300 stipend for their six weeks of work.
