ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) _ Authorities say the man who opened fire on an Oregon community college campus is dead.

Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin said at a news conference that officers exchanged gunfire with the shooter and that ``he is deceased.''

Hanlin didn't say whether the shooter was killed by officers or took his own life.

Authorities say 13 people were killed at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown says the gunman was a 20-year-old male.

Meanwhile, the FBI says it's sending teams to Roseburg to assist.

The White House says President Barack Obama has been briefed by his homeland security adviser on the deadly mass shooting in Roseburg.

At the president's request, he'll continue to receive updates throughout the day.
