Greg Desrosiers/TSM[/caption]Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a barricaded suspect threatening police in Fairhaven Sunday night.

Police responded to a disturbance call at 55 Main St. around 8:30 PM to find Richard Ribeiro, 40, causing a disturbance in his first floor apartment.

Sergeant Kevin Kobza tells WBSM News what happened next.

Ribeiro then barricaded himself in his apartment and continued throwing objects out the windows at police officers.

New Bedford, Acushnet, Mattapoisett, and State Police as well as the South Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) SWAT team assisted Fairhaven Police.

Ribeiro was apprehended around 11:30 PM when he attempted to escape through one of the broken windows. He was tased by a member of the SWAT team and taken into custody.

Ribeiro is charged with disturbing the peace, disorderly conduct and destruction of property.

He was transported to St. Luke's Hospital for evaluation and will be arraigned in district court after he is released.

No motive has been determined and an investigation is ongoing.

No weapons were found on Ribeiro and Kobza says no shots were ever fired.

The gas line in the home was also ruptured prior to the suspect's arrest. Residents were evacuated from their homes for a short period of time until the line was fixed.
